Let It Begin
A Prayer for the New Year.
By Rev. Karen Munson
As one year’s last minutes
tick toward the first seconds of the next,
Let courage begin
to infiltrate the marrow of our resolve
to be better human beings,
one to another,
and strengthen our spines.
Let us begin
to be intolerant
of anything that dismisses another as worthless,
of words that wound
of choices that scar.
Let gratitude begin
to replenish the rocky landscape
of broken dreams and promises,
mine and yours,
and make fertile common ground.
Let attention begin
to help me hear
the persistent God-beat of compassion,
pulsing new life into what is
and birthing what may be.
Let my guard down
to you, Christ, who leads me
into the circle of your love
where I am renewed and remade.
Let it begin,
This moment,
This us.
